Plume rise
The impact of exhaust plumes from industrial developments has become a growing issue, particularly for the aviation industry as there are implications for aircraft safety.
Katestone has been providing plume rise assessments since 1996. We are therefore well placed to work with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) to revise their Advisory Circular that provides the methodology for assessing vertical plume velocities from industrial facilities (AC 139-05(0)). This is a complex process that aims to make assessment more transparent and simple for people to determine what is required for their project. The draft revised circular was released in early 2012 for comment.
While working on the Advisory Circular revision, Katestone developed a screening tool that enables CASA to assess plumes from single and multiple stacks in a consistent way. This innovative tool is based on more than 30,000 model simulations using TAPM covering a wide range of potential source configurations.
