Katestone talks about managing heat stress to Gladstone Industry Group

Our Managing Director Christine Killip was recently invited to present on occupational heat stress at the Gladstone Industry Area Network (GAIN) meeting at QAL. Christine discussed management of occupational heat stress at industrial facilities and gave participants a sneak peek at our new weather intelligence technology.

Aimed at helping industry to better manage heat stress, Katestone’s new weather intelligence tool – KITE® – is being honed for release in the New Year.

Occupational heat stress is a complex issue that requires a good understanding of the environment, weather, human response and mitigation options to manage it successfully. Katestone has identified that most occupational heat stress management systems are static, based on an annual risk assessment, whilst heat stress is dynamic. KITE provides the necessary data for a dynamic management system using accurate local forecasts of impending heat load events.

Heat stress is only one aspect of KITE’s capability. Depending on a customer’s needs KITE can forecast the full range of meteorological parameters or weather dependent indices.

“Industry feedback is vital to delivering a tool that provides maximum benefit to the end user” said Christine. “We’re asking industry – particularly weather sensitive industry – what they need in a tool that can reduce their onsite risk from weather related events. We want to make sure we deliver what industry requires, something which helps manage occupational heat stress or dust risk through targeted, site specific forecasts.”
